Bringing Life to VHS
I've already mentioned the work of VHS is Life under two pages already but his creations are worth further mentioning. He has created the mold cleaner for removal of scuzz from your beloved tapes but he is doing much more. He is making history by creating new, beautiful, blank tapes.
Why is this so special?

Well, for dorks like me and several others, it's an incredibly exciting moment to come across a unique VHS tape while digging through piles of Titanic or Jerry Maguire. If you find an old Veggie Tales tape or Nickelodeon release, you know it might be a colored tape. From here you can spool swap any tape into that colored shell and have a super cool addition to your collection. These options are limited, however. If you wanted transparent VHS tapes, you'd probably have to order them from Japan.

Not only does VHS is Life offer transparent tapes but there's also (first time ever) glow-in-the-dark and metallic finish tapes. And these are all new blanks so you can record directly onto them without worrying about degraded quality.

This is an extremely exciting time for VHS enthusiasts, almost 20 years after the medium was commercially discontinued,

So here's to the hard work and love from VHS is Life for, not only, continuing VHS production but giving it a whole new makeover!
Now we just need folks out there who want to make new VCRs :)
Walmart and VHS?!
Just this last summer of 2024, we saw something very unusual. People were sharing images online of Terrifier 2 being sold at....... Walmart. I thought this was some joke, I thought someone had made their own copy of the flick and took a picture inside Walmart but sure as shit, Terrifier 2, a modern day slasher film, was being sold on VHS! This was made possible by Witter Entertainment.

Pre-orders also opened up on the Walmart website for Alien Romulus, through 20th Century Fox... which is fucking crazy.

What are we seeing here?
A revival of VHS?
Corporations cashing in on nostalgia?
People wanting tangible, analog media?
A queef in the Matrix?

Maybe a bit of all of the above but whatever the phenomena is due to, I think it's an important timestamp. Yet there's certain things to consider... people shouldn't scalp and people shouldn't gatekeep. This might be from my own bootlegger appreciation of the art/format but I think this is a fabulous era for us VHS goers. Share that shit around! Suspending my very own qualms against Walmart, I think this is super cool and that people are getting introduced to or reminded of VHS in this digital sphere we've all, inevitably, melded into. But scalping is not cool, fuck scalpers.

Terrifier 3
It's 2025 and we have another limited VHS release thanks to Witter Entertainment, Broke Horror Fan, Cineverse, Scream Box, and Bloody Disusting. Thankfully, it was early enough that I managed to obtain a copy of Terrifier 3 at my local Wally World!
Rad!

There were 2 copies available so I just grabbed one for myself. I wouldn't want to deprive that experience from someone else who was also seeking out a copy for their collection by purchasing more than necessary. It was wild to walk up to the automated check out and scan this gory slasher on VHS at a Walmart and I'm grateful to the cats who made all of this possible! Let's see more analog love out there in the world!

Plaza Theater
It's the springtime and that means there will be another VHS market at the Plaza Theater! Humongous shout outs to Plaza Theater, Videodrome Atlanta, Michael Myerz for putting this on once more! Stop out on March 30th from 6 - 8:30 PM and check out the feauture flick as well.

These markets happen twice per year and are my most looked forward to events. It's an amazing time where you get to connect with other VHS junkies, discuss movies, build or sell your collection (often times, both), check out a crazy movie after the market, and make friends.
These cool cats have inspired me with their love and appreciation for video and physical media which has helped to feed my philosophies on the Athens VHS Fest.
Here's some insightful videos over Plaza Theater, Videodrome, and Michael Myerz!
And here's some videos over past VHS Markets at the Plaza Theater. Videos by Wayback Attack, vhs.or.die, and Closet VHS!

Found Footage Festival Returns to Cine!
10/4/2025
Speaking of Ciné, the Found Footage Festival will be returning during their Vol. 11 tour!

Here's the write-up from Ciné's website:

~ Joe Pickett (The Onion) and Nick Prueher (Late Show) have over 14,000 VHS tapes in their cluttered office in Brooklyn and will take viewers on a guided tour of their latest and greatest finds in this brand-new Volume 11 show for 2025. Highlights include a psychotic dollar store salesman, a video catalog of porcelain dolls, two wonderfully homemade Bigfoot videos, and a New Age “miracle” treatment from the 80s called “Psychic Surgery.”
(90 mins - nudity, language, clowns) ~

I recall their last show at Ciné, it was mesmerizing, incessantly hilarious, and inspiring. The Lab was completely packed, me and my pal Isaac lucked out on getting seats. This time
I'll be assisting in promoting their show here in Athens, as well as setting up a table to sell some tapes after the event.
What an honor!
